INTERFLIX Flixbus Bus Pass Review 2019 – Travel in Europe
INTERFLIX Flixbus Bus Pass Review 2019 – Travel in Europe, my experience.
In the summer of 2017, I started to publish some anonymous photos of me in front of many artworks around the museums of Europe. In a month and a half on the road, in fact, I visited visiting Paris, Munich, Prague, Budapest, Dubrovnik and many other cities.
In this post I tell you how I planned my journey and how I fell in love with the adventure, I also did the same the following summer, choosing new destinations.
Interflix. Travel in Europe by bus – Summer 2017
My trip on the road started by accident. I had just spent the first month in London and was figuring out whether to spend the rest of the summer here. So looking for cities to visit, I discovered Interflix and booked it without thinking twice.
The idea is similar to Interrail but by bus. The Interflix is, in fact, an offer of the Flixbus company that allows you to buy 5 tickets for € 99. I knew I had about five weeks and I absolutely wanted to discover or rediscover some European capitals. So I made a list of the places I would like to visit and tried to evaluate the best route for my time and budget.
There are a couple of limitations that need to be considered: only direct connections can be booked and the same route cannot be booked as a return journey. Once you understand the mechanism, you just have to choose where you want to go.
European cities to visit with the Interflix – Paris, Munich, Prague, Budapest and Dubrovnik
My journey started in July from London and as a first stop, I chose Paris. I already knew I wanted to visit it but then I wanted to understand how much time to spend in each city. So the actual plan of the journeys required a little bit of patience.
I decided to always travel at night and to spend at least 3 days in each city. So I spent 1 night travelling to move from one city to another and about 2 nights in a hotel, Airbnb or hostel.
Those days in Paris were fantastic and they gave me the energy to continue the trip to Munich, the only city where I spent only one day. I planned to go there on the first Sunday of the month and we were able to visit the museums only for 1 euro. However, this forced me to spend two consecutive nights on the bus.
I wouldn’t recommend doing that to anyone. Arriving in Prague for 4 days I decided to go around the city but also to rest. Some places like the Dancing House or the Old Town were naturally included in the itinerary. And what I love most about this city is a unique atmosphere that you can find, which cannot be confused with any other European capital.
To be able to stay within the budget, I recommend choosing a mix of expensive and cheaper cities. This is why the next stop for me was Budapest. In this case, the journey was short and I arrived immediately ready for a tour of Parliament, Castle and Margaret Island.
Another must in the organization of my trip was the sea. I could not miss going from Budapest the next stop with a direct route, which was Dubrovnik in Croatia. This one was the longest journey: from 4 pm to 6 am. But being able to put in the bag sweatshirts and wear swimsuits has also made it one of the best moments of the journey.
European cities to visit with the Interflix – Venice, Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam and London
So I ended up using the 5 tickets for € 99. But I knew from the beginning that I had to come back to London. So I decided to cross Croatia by local transport via Zadar, Sibenik and Split to arrive in Italy, in Trieste. And from there, I started again with other 5 tickets.
It was the year of the 2017 Biennale, so I spent a couple of days in Trieste between San Giusto and the Molo Audace, but the next stop was Venice, just for one day. Just in time to enjoy the city with a lot of artworks.
This is in my opinion what makes Interflix, like the Interail, the ideal vacation for those who love to move. It gives you the flexibility to go around choosing the destination and being able to fall asleep in Venice and wake up in Barcelona. Here there was no lack of Picasso and Mirò and there were many tours on the Rambla and the Gothic Quarter.
It was also the last stop with the sun and the sea because after that we went back to Paris for two days. And the journey ended with two cities full of museums: a warm but slightly cloudy Berlin with its Museumsquartier and Amsterdam doing the slalom between bicycles and tulips but also with the opportunity of seeing amazing masterpieces.
Interflix. Travel in Europe by bus – Summer 2018
Coming back to London after five weeks was a little bit traumatic for me but we enjoyed the experience so much that despite our full-time jobs, we decided to book another Interflix for 2 weeks the following year, in 2018. This time around Spain and Portugal. We moved from Paris to Madrid, Lisbon, Porto and Bilbao.
For this summer we haven’t decided yet if we will make this experience again, but given that buying 5 tickets for € 99 you only have to wait for the activation time, it is easy to organize even without much planning.
INTERFLIX Flixbus Bus Pass Review 2019 – How to book
